"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking that created them."
-Albert Einstein
If you are like most people, just thinking about your problems brings up fear, worry, guilt or any number of uncomfortable feelings and sensations.
You may feel a heaviness in your stomach, tightness in your chest, or notice that your breathing becomes shallow. Have you noticed that thinking about your problems on the level of fear generally just makes you feel worse?
The paradox is that fear is often the vehicle through which our greatest growth happens.
When we are in the midst of fear's grasp, however, we are often unable to hold both its unknown darkness and its bare wisdom at the same time. We too easily get lost in the darkness.
So we seek outside guidance, as you are doing now—someone to help you “hold” the painful experiences and mental confusion so that you can access the parts of yourself that will lead the way to healing.
It may not feel like there are many parts of you right now that can lead the way to wholeness, and that's fine.
Let me just say, however, that if you did not have an innate orientation toward healing, you would not be reading this web site right now.
Most likely you seek relief from some form of suffering: depression, anxiety, uncertainty about your life purpose, a sense of stuck-ness, or painful life circumstances.
Yet the “same kind of thinking” that triggers the suffering will not lead you through it, as you have probably already discovered.
So the invitation of this painful gift is to shift to a new level of awareness and perspective, in which you grow past the suffering into greater freedom and ease of being.
This work is not superficial; it leads to transformative opening and growth. It also happens when you are truly ready to move to a new level.
If you feel this is where you are in your life, I would be happy to work with you through this next stage of your journey.
Be well.
